HOLLEY COMMUNITY FREE LIBRARY PROPOSED 2020 BUDGET Difficult times mandate difficult decisions. Our community library has adopted the new isolation in place policies put into effect by our Governor. We have closed our doors but opened new windows. Our children's programs continue on line, your library card entitles you to access any data base in the NIOGA system (movies, books, CD's, e-books etc.) and all are fine free when isolation ends. Passing the 2018 budget made the position of Children's Librarian permanent. Miss Grace has since offered 129 programs attended by 1674 people including 17 summer reading programs. The 2020 budget includes funding to increase her hours so that she will continue to expand programming for children and families. Passing the 2019 budget enabled Sandy Shaw, the Library Director to add additional programs for adults, 22 programs were attended by 244 people. Both librarians have been working on outreach, teaming with the elementary and high schools, borrowing books from the high school for availability to students during the summer, partnering with BOCES 2 to share resources and partnering with Grace's Place. With this budget in place our circulation of children, young adult and adult materials has increased from 20,793 in 2018 to 22,774 in 2019. In addition to educational programming, the Library has reached out to provide services and programs to the community such as Christmas Cards for Veterans, a hat and mitten tree for children at the school, Food for Fines donations, a Community Christmas Party, and delivery of books to shut-ins unable to come in to the Library. We also, in conjunction with Holley Gardens Management, have planned on creating and maintaining a mini-library for residents at the new Holley Gardens when it opens in the spring. Your Library consistently seeks to be fiscally responsible through efficient use of grants, and State aid to secure improvements at no cost to the community. A new children's room, replace- ment of a roof and furnace were done at no community expense. We have recently applied for a grant to fix our building and make it all ADA compliant. By doing this, we will not be pass- ing on the cost to our community. This is one of many grants that have been written this year to enhance the library for our patrons. The budget on which you will be voting will be $183,773, a 7.8% increase. Staff salaries have been raised to the mandated NYS minimum. While cuts were made in many areas, a qual- ity of service is being maintained. A Town Hall style meeting is planned in the future so that any questions you have will be answered. Movies for children will be shown and snacks will be avail- able during the session. Feel free to call Sandy Shaw, the Library Direc- tor, at 585-638-6987 to discuss any questions or comments.
